Is Smoking Marijuana Safe After A Cardiac Catheterization Procedure?
I just had a cardiac catheterization and a stent placed. I am quitting smoking cigarettes after 26 years. But I do enjoy the occasional sharing of ablittle marijuana on the weekend. Not much ever at a time. Usually just two or three inhales. What do you think?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
People with established heart disease and those who are under stress are known to develop chest pain more quickly if they have been smoking marijuana. This is because of complex effects cannabinoid have on the cardiovascular system like increasing resting heart rate, dilating blood vessels and making the heart pump harder. Research suggests that the risk of heart attack is several times higher in the hour after smoking marijuana than it would be normally. Hence, it would be better to abstain from use of marijuana completely to maintain good health.
Hope I have answered your query.
