Is Smoking Safe After A Concussion?

Hi there I have recently suffered a bad concussion about a week ago and have been very good with no screen time and brain rest, since its been about a week I am limiting my screen time. I smoke casually and haven t had one since my incident, my question is that if I have a cigarette will it delay the repairing of my brain and is it damaging to my brain s health. Obviously I know that smoking is bad for your lungs and causes cancer and I am aware of that but all I want to know is it ok to have a cigarette a week after the injury?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Smoking may decrease the function of endothelial cells, it also damages the repairing process, and vascular regeneration. So, it is better to avoid smoking.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
