Is Snorkelling Safe While Suffering From A Cardiac Disorder?

Background: my brother is a 55 yr old white male 5 8 290lbs and morbidly obese. In May of 2016 he suffered a major cardiac event that lasted 55 min. During that time he flat lined 3 times and had to be shocked 10-15 times. Question: he wants to go snorkeling in Key West this Spring with my brothers who don t see this might cause him added cardiac stress. What should he know?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think it should be fine, however, he needs to talk to his cardiologist about it and make sure they say it is okay before he does this or any new activity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kathy Robinson
