Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Soaking In Boric Acid Water Advisable For Swelling And Bruising?
I hit my knee as a child and my godmom soaked it in boric acid water that had been diluted with lots of water, boiled then cooled to soak my knee and it worked to stop the pain and take down all swelling. Recently the same approach healed a bruised foot. What are your thoughts since I have never heard it recommended for these matters until my godmom.
I think that the major factor in healing is the water and its temperature. If the water was cool and applied to an injured area, this will reduce inflammation and reduce swelling and pain.
The boric acid may also work as a skin disinfectant to prevent any complication with infection but the major improvement seems to be due to the cool water applied locally.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I may assist you further.
Kind regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj. General and Family Physician
