Is Stapedectomy Recommended For Hearing Disability Caused Due To Osteoporosis?

Hello !!Lately, I had discovered on using headphones that I hear less from my right ear. It is also mentioned that other than this I had no other indication not even anyone complaining of my hearing less. After seeing ENT specialists & various test done I was informed that it is happening due to osteoporosis. Since consulted 2 ENT doctors one informed about stapedotomy & other informed about stapedectomy surgery. Now my questions are what s the difference between the two and which of the surgery is advisable, secondly whether this corrective step shall be helpful life long and lastly whether the above problem can be cured through oral medication ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The hearing disability with osteoporosis indicates the need of surgery, and stapedectomy is preferable to prevent recurrence. There does not sound any medical cure for this to waste time and money. The future outcome depends upon the number of factors to be considered as host immune response, operative area healing phase, presence or absence of diabetes , post operative infection or inflammation and many more criteria which should be discussed with the operating ENT specialist.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
