Is Stent Placement Or Open Heart Surgery Preferred When Having 90% Blocked Artery?

My husband just had a surgery. In 2009 50% of LAD D1 with 70%, no intervention was done during cath. He just went in again for a heart cath 90% occluded ostal & proximal LAD where stent was placed . While back in surgery the doctor asked him if he wanted a stent or open heart surgery. He does have diabetes that is under control with pills. My question is was this the best way to go and why was he even asked about open heart surgery? Any info you could pass on to us would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Rick Woolwine YYYY@YYYY

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern for your husband, one can have the same result with the angioplasty (stent ) if life style being changed from grass rooted level and this is the best option because end result would be the same as one can get after open heart surgery and risk factors would be more in open heart surgery in compare to angioplasty, hope this information helps, take care.
