Is Stress Test Advisable For A Person With Elevated Heart Beat?

My son in law had an heart episode where his heart beat was at 250 per minute. They had to defib him to get get back to normal. Tests showed he had a valve problem but suspect an electrical problem to blame. This happened after he was stressed from heavy lifting. In order to go to Mayo he has to have a specialist recommend him. The specialist wants to have him do a stress test. Isn t that dangerous?
