Is Stroke Normal When Diagnosed With Cyst Near Esophagus?

My best friend of 53 years has a cyst wrapped around her esophagus. She was hospitalized as soon as there was a diagnosis. That was last week. Over the last two days she has experienced a Code Blue and she had a complete full blown stroke last week. I was just looking for any info I can get. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Stroke occurs when the blood supply to brain ceases due to reduced blood supply.
Reduced blood supply to brain occurs due to compromised blood supply to brain like atherosclerosis, compression of vessel by intrinsic or extrinsic cause, etc.
A exact location of cyst around the esophagus needs to be known since the origin of brain blood vessels is from heart which is in close proximity to the esophagus in the chest.
A radiographic study can exactly locate the site of cyst and its relation with heart vessels which supply the brain.
Subclavian artery is the major branch of heart which gives off branches to brain.
Any compromise of this vessel needs to be determined to determine whether this is the cause of stroke.
I suggest you to consult your treating doctor for further details and investigations.

Thanks and take care
