Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a lumpectomy 3 years ago followed by 9 weeks of radiation therapy. My Dr. put me on Tamoxifen. I really hate the drug - weight gain, hair loss, insomnia, etc. I still have a year and a half to go before my Doctor will take me off the drug. But the side effects are bad and I am thinking of getting off the medication. Is it risky business to stop taking the medication. Also, does the drug cause vaginal bleeding?
As you mentioned, you are facing a lot of side effects by using Tamoxifen drug. As it is not advisable to stop the medicine, I suggest you some options.
There are alternative medications for Tamoxifen like (Aromatase inhibitors) Aromasin drug etcetera. I advise you to consult your physician about your side effects and your present body condition to calculate the dosage and alternate the medicine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Indhu Priyadharshini
