Is Sudden Elevation In Heart Rate While Exercising At The Age Of 79 A Cause For Concern?

At the gym where I go 3 evenings a week for about 1 hr, my heart rate recently registered up to 150 on the tread mill or recumbent bicycle. I am walking/pedalling not so fast, at up to 30 [?mph], or up to 8-10 on the recumbent. Is the machine broken ? Am I doing dammage to my body? I should perhaps say that I am a 79 years old woman. Hi,

Welcome to Health Care Magic,

I am Dr.Naveed Ullah khan,

I have read your question in detail and will try to help you in the best way possible.

Fast heart rate during any kind of exercise or exertion is not a problem unless u have symptoms like chest pain, light headedness, loss of conciousness, syncope or any other features like that. If u r not experiencing any of these symptoms then u can safely contibue doing exercises.
Excercises are always good for ur general health and i suggest u doing that at least 30 mins per day for 5 days a week

I hope this answered all your queries, if you have more queries,I will be happy to answer.

Wish you the best of health.

Regards.
