Is Surgery Advisable When Having Endometrium Thickness Of 16mm?

my mom is 67. she noticed vaginal bleeding about 25 days back. ultrasound shows endometrium thickness of 16 mm. pap smer shows non malignancy. the doctor went for biopsy through dnc. the report will be in hand on 9 October. is there anything to avoid surgery?

Hello,

The endometrium abnormality is calculated with a baseline of 11 mm. Anything high or low is mentioned in the report is considered either thick or thin when compared with the baseline.

Chances of cancer are hardly 6.7% and most cases do not require surgery and respond well with conservative management itself. Only in cases where the conservative management fails the surgery is opted for.

As you can see the research studies, it shows a very minimal number of 6.7% so I personally feel your mother might not need surgery even though it is 16 mm.
