Is Surgery Necessary To Treat Gall Stones?

Are small gall stones more dangerous than larger ones? I have 6-8 of 1cm+ size and of late (last one month) am suffering from a constant dull pain (bearable, not acute). I am advised surgery. I am a diabetic and am putting up with gb stones for 2 yrs now. Is surgery absolutely necessary ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* When the size of gall stones are small, there are more chances of it to get dislodged and stuck into the bile ducts causing obstructive jaundice.
* Surgery in terms of laparoscopic cholecystectomy is best to approach at this stage once the diabetes is under control and pre-op physician assessment gives a clean chit for the anesthesia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
