Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Surgery Needed For The Following CT Scan Result?
My 16 year old daughter s CT scan report findings summary is as below. Horse shoe kidney and left PUJ obstruction causing gross hydronephrosis and severe cortical thinning in left kidney Is this a serious condition. Can the Kidney be treated. Is surgery necessary. My appointment with the doctor is 2 days away and I am a little worried after seeing the CT report. Will I have to initiate prompt treatment?
The report is a bit concerning. Actually there is congenital abnormality in the kidney that's is instead of two kidney lying apart , the two kidneys are attached in the middle (horse shoe kidney).
Besides this , there is obstruction to the draining of urine in left kidney hence causing accumulation of fluid in that kidney which has caused some damage to that kidney.
This would need further work up. So this would need details work up and palm ahead.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman
