Is Surgery Needed For The Following Brain MRI?

IMPRESSION of an MRI of the brain : 7 x 3.6 x 2.4 cm intra-axial mass lesion of left temporal lobe, with sulci effacement and mass effect/midline shift as above. More cystic component is identified anteromedially, with less enhancing infiltrative appearing component identified in posterior lateral aspect. Neoplasm, including primary and metastasis, are among the considerations. Could you please explain in layman s term and what are the dangers of surgery. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, this report is suggestive of likely malignant growth or tumor in the brain. The location seems operable but neurosurgeon review should be sought. Also that mass effect or brain compression symptoms are appearing so surgical resection of tumor followed by oncologist review seems to be an option.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
