Is Surgery Recommended For Throbbing Pain And Hard Mass In Left Ovary?

Hello. I am a 44 year old female . I have recently been seen by health care people regarding a throbbing pain in my left ovary region. I went for a vaginal ultrasound and they saw it and scheduled me for surgery. However, the original doctor felt more concerned with my right side....i have a very hard area there, it ranges about 5 inches and she said sometimes the pain seems like its on the one side but its this mass she was most worried about. I have had severe periods for awhile now and lately have been so tired all the time. i have not had the surgery yet. Any ideas? This is worrying me half to death!

Hello,

Yes, I do agree with your original doctor that the hard area on right side about 5 inches is of medical concern. That needs to be evaluated first. It would have been better if you could have uploaded your ultrasound report. However, I suggest you to consult with your doctors again, and ask them to re-evaluate you, and see which side of your ovaries need primary attention. Please do not worry; this is a treatable condition.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Anesthesiologist Dr. Pallavi.m's  Response
Hi,

They can go for an abdominal ultrasound and can determine the condition of right ovary. It's the next step to do before going for surgery. Kindly ask your gynecologist for further investigations as follows:
1) Ultrasound abdomen and pelvis
2) CA 123 levels to rule out malignancy

During surgery to the left ovary, they can take a biopsy of right ovary and send to histopathology examination. Based on the results, further treatment can be planned. Please discuss the same with your gynecologist. Most importantly, you don't need to worry as there are many advanced treatment options and the recovery is complete.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
