Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Surgery Required To Rectify Vision Of -4 Diopters In One Eye?
I have had one cataract removed and now have 20/20 vision. I am awaiting my other eye to be done, and my ophthalmologist said it was my choice whether or not to go for the second eye to be modified by 1.5 Diopters to give me mid-range vision or go for the standard 20/20. My eyes have adapted quite well over the past two weeks to having one eye at 20/20 and the other at -4 diopters. Suggestions as to pros or cons to either?
My Suggestion: Either way is fine and depends upon your needs.
If you are Housewife or in profession that does not require too much of focused balance between your eyes You can choose for Option 1. can Get your other eye fixed for Near with 1.5D undercorrection.
If you are involved in activities which require high visual skill like Driving, Fine work like artistry, designing you should plan for option 2. full correction.
Please note that if go for option 1. you are going to lose Binocular function eg. you will not be able to enjoy 3D Movie experince.
If you want a compromise between 1 and 2 you can ask your Ophthalmologist regarding implantation of Multifocal lens with full correction in second eye.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saurabh Mittal, Ophthalmologist
