Is Surgical Treatment Advisable For Ovarian Cysts?
Hi Doctor! My sister in law has been diagnosed with Ovarian endometriomas, also known as ‘chocolate cysts’. She is 29 years old. Have never had a child and want to get pregnant. She was diagnosed 1 year ago. She had taken some Chinese herbal medicine, but no other treatment. The cyst on her left ovary was about 8.2cm, now 7.2cm. She has another small cyst (about 2 cm) on her right ovary. What kind of treatment you recommend: medication or surgery? If surgery, which type of surgery? Will it impact her fertility? Will the cyst grow back again? Thanks a lot for your time and help.
Some surgeons do prefer only cyst excision , keeping ovary inside the pelvic cavity and face problems of recurrence in future, I personally do not recommend this.
* The right ovary small cyst can be punctured during the same laparoscopic procedure and can be cured nicely.
So far as fertility is concerned, there will be always best chances through functioning right ovary ovulating on regular basis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon

Hello, * As per my surgical experience, the large chocolate cyst on left ovary needs laparoscopic surgery (preferably oophorectomy with cystectomy to avoid recurrence) Some surgeons do prefer only cyst excision , keeping ovary inside the pelvic cavity and face problems of recurrence in future, I personally do not recommend this. * The right ovary small cyst can be punctured during the same laparoscopic procedure and can be cured nicely.
