Is Swallowing Nailpaint By An Autistic Child A Cause For Concern?
My little sister is autistic and I left the room for one min and I came back and she had nail glue all on top of the roof of her mouth. I got it all off but I dont know how much she swallowed. She seems fine but she can t really tell me how she is feeling. She is some what coughing ever once in a while like her through is scratchy. I don t know if it can hurt her or not. What should I do.
Nail glue contains cyanoacrylate compound. It sticks to the skin and may be allergic to skin causing dermatitis. Upon aspiration, it can cause blocking of trachea and bronchus which causes persistent cough due to foreign body clearance reflux mechanism of the body. Visit the emergency for manual removal of the glue and further management.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
