Is Swelling And Soreness In The Neck A Cause For Concern?

I have a very sore throat and was just treated with antibiotics- 875 mg. I started them today. I have a history of step but today my rapid strep was negative. My question is: The front of my neck is very sore going all the way down the front and hurts to touch it. It is swollen and red. Can this be a sign of a more serious problem? The doctor looked at it, but said I was fine. I also had tonsils removed a year ago hoping to remedy my problem. I also have an ear infection. The doctor suggested it could be related to possible dental infection, which I also have history of dental issues but I am good at seeing a dentist. I am 45.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swelling and soreness in the neck which seems to be due to streptococcal infection and it could be due to excessive acid production leading to acid reflux. It can also occur due to viral infection like viral pharyngitis . Milk boiled with a pinch of turmeric taken at bedtime will be helpful for you. You should take ginger ,lemon juice and honey to soothen your throa. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids. I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene and do warm saline gargles. You should take antibiotic Amoxicillin for 5 days. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get routine blood tests and throat swab test done and start treatment after proper diagnosis.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
