Is Swelling In Lymph Nodes In The Neck Post Cancer Treatment A Cause For Concern?

Hi, my 25 year old son received chemotherapy from 12/2014 through 6/2015 for non-hodgkins lymphoma, and obtained successful remission. PET scans from 6/2015 through recently have confirmed his remission is stable. But, a PEt scan today revealed 3 (cm? mm??) swelling of lymph nodes in his neck. His oncologist doesn t seem too concerned, and we plan to have his chest port surgically removed later this month. Is the 3 cm swelling generally anything to worry about? He shows no signs of any other cold, URI, infection, etc. Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a recurrence. A biopsy from the node will be helpful to make a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
