Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Swelling In The Feet A Clinical Presentation Of Cardiovascular Disease?
I am experiencing 3 days of slightly swollen ankles/feet. I have been elevating my legs (above my heart) when I get home from work. It only helps a little or none. I have heart disease in my family and am concerned that this could be a symptom. Advise. Also I have a desk job and have been sitting a LOT more than ever in my career. At times I m so tired of sitting that I have to stand to get some relief. Is this related to my swollen ankles/feet? Thank you
Yes prolonged sitting can cause feet swelling but other possibilities like heart function assessment with echocardiogram to see the ejection fraction, and urinalysis to rule out any protein called albumin loss in urine as albumin is needed to keep the blood inside blood vessels due to keeping a constant osmotic pressure etc. Liver and kidney functions may also be assessed for reassurance.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
