Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my doctor is wanting to change my blood pressure medicine from hydralazine to carvedilol and I don t like the side effects for the carvedilol. I have arthritis and I am afraid it will start hurting more. What should I do if I am currently taking the hydralazine and not hurting,
Your concern is right. However, there are a number of medication for hypertension and one may be better for one, other for other. Your Dr would decide which one suits you the most. Though our aim is to achieve a good control. Whichever drug be used and tolerated.
If There is no other reason and your BP is controlled with hydralazine, then its fine for you. However your Dr may want to give you some other advantages of carvidalol, so discuss with him. As why he wants to change the drug. Arthritis is not a major problem with carvidalol.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
