Warfarin is an
anticoagulant and it's main function is to prevent blood from clotting.
After an open heart surgery, it is vital to keep the blood thin enough to prevent complications resulting from
blood clots.
For this reason, the INR is usually maintained above 2. (bet 2-2.5).
As your values are still below the expected level, you have been advised to take 3mg.
Please do so, as advised by your doctor. Your blood will be checked again to see if the values are in the expected range.
If you have any prolonged bleeding problems, please inform your cardiologist right away.
A note of caution : always take medications, change dosages and maintain follow ups as advised by your treating doctor. Never do this on your own.
