Is Switching To Escitalopram From Desvenlafaxine Safe?
can i switch to escitalopram 5mg from desvenlafaxine 25 mg. My problem was pressure in head and ear blockage(like an attack each day) after a sleep paralysis at night. One doctor prescribed me desvenlafaxine 50mg (extended release) half table at night with 0.25 clonazepam for 15 days. I was following it for 1 week, then one more doctor advised to take escitalopram 5mg+clonazepam 0.25mg for 30 days without knowing that I am taking desvenlafaxine. Now I am normal and improving. Which one is best? And can i switch to escitalopram from desvenlafaxine suddenly.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In fact both of the drugs are grossly the same, belonging to same group, though Desvenlafaxine is an advanced formula with few added effects and may be more effective however Citalopram may work the same. If you have already been on one drug, and that's working for you, and you have no problem with that, I would suggest you continue with the same. However, if you have any problem with the former, the latter can be a good alternative.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
