Is Swollen And Bruised Thigh Post Injury A Cause For Concern?

I had a pretty nasty fall yesterday and my thigh is swallon and badly bruised. Due to have a 6 hour flight in 4 days. Will it be safe to fly? I also have bruising to my face cheek and brow. I saw a doctor today but he just told me to RICE and see how it is in three days.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that do to fall you have got a soft tissue injury leading to inflammation of soft tissues leading to swelling and pain and bruising is due to rupture of blood vessels secondary to trauma and it is leading to accumulation of blood in the soft tissues and causing bruising and hematoma formation..

You can do cool compresses over the swollen and bruised areas..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
You can apply analgesic gel to relieve pain..
Elevate your leg while lying down..
You can also apply Heparin gel to quickly wean off swelling..

As flying can cause pain and discomfort in the areas of body which has air filled cavities like sinuses, ears etc but does not supposedly cause pain in other areas and therefore there does not seems to cause pain and discomfort..
Therefore you can fly and just keep precaution like taking proper pain relievers before boarding the flight..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
