Is Swollen Tongue And Inflammed Throat Post Intake Of Gaviscon A Cause For Concern?

I am 38 weeks pregnant with bad heartburn. I took some Gaviscon. It relieved the symptoms but after an hour or so my tongue was slightly swollen and back of throat slightly inflamed, that was 7 hours ago, it hasn t got any worse and I think has slightly gone down. I haven t taken anymore of the product since, will I be ok? Could this get worse?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you seem to have developed allergic reaction apparently caused by the intake of antacid Gaviscon. I advise you to avoid using it and ask your doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medicine to treat acidity related issues.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
