Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I live in Mn so the wakeboarding(boating/swimming in lake water) season is still early but I got my classic cement nose. I took flonase tonight but I know I might appreciate afrin before bed. any drug interactions or consequences by doing afrin while flonase is still in the nasal tissue?
Yes, there is no documented harmful interaction between these two hence Afrin can be taken while on Flonase. Flonase (fluticasone) is a corticosteroid and Afrin (oxymetazoline) is a nasal decongestant found to be useful in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. Taking Afrin adds to the effectiveness of Flonase in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. However, Afrin should not be used for more than 3 days due to the risk of rebound nasal congestion and Flonase is generally not recommended for more than 6 months due to systemic side effects.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
