Is Taking Atenolol Safe For The Treatment Of Hypertension?
I am currently working in china and when I went to the local pharmacy to buy my atenolol 25mg the pharmacist said you look too young for heart troubles (I m 53) I explained no it s for high blood pressure. She looked shocked and said that atenolol was too dangerous for high blood pressure and there where much better tablets for this. I left feeling distressed and anxious. I ve been on this drug for 8 yrs as prescibed by my doctor, however I Have not been home in 3 yrs. I have no heart conditions only high blood pressure which can be still high in hot weather. However I try to exercise most days don t smoke and only drink a very small amount of alcohol 3 or 4 beers a month. Can you please advise me as I now worry about this. Many thanks Michael.
Atenolol is safe in hypertension unless you are developing any side effects like nausea dizzinessconstipation etc. If you feel anything unusual then you should check with your medical practitioner.
