Is Taking Beta Blocker Safe For Hypertension Despite Having Heart Palpitations?

I have taken a Beta Blocker (started with Corgard and have been on Nadalol now for about 20 years.I have taken 1/2 of 40 MG TABLET . They are not always easy to get the two halves even. I am still taking it for being hyper and having a lot of heart palpitations and my mytrial valve propapse. (Scarlet Fever as a young child.) I am a high energy person. I seem to have no side effects on this low dose. Sometimes I miss the am one and am not sure if I should take it in the evening then, and then can I take it again in the am and remain in the am every day? I just do not want to double up. I have no problems with it that I am aware of.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi is your hypertension in control? How often do you get your BP checked? I feel that there are better drugs for hypertension available now than beta blockers which were rampantly prescribed earlier. You can talk to your doctor about other options especially since you have a heart condition. That being said if you are comfortable with beta blockers and your BP is in good control there may not be a need to change your medications. Also it's important to be consistent with your medicines. If you forget to take your tablet take it as soon as you remember. You donot have to wait till evening. Make sure you take one tablet everyday and preferably at the same time. If you do it regularly it will become a habit. I hope this helps. I wish you good health. Take care :)
