I am 30th week of pregnancy. LMP is 13/12/2010. EDD 19.09.2011. BP 68/110Hg, Haemoglobin : 9.5, weight 54 kg. No history of Diabetes / BP. Cervical length 5.3cm.
However, our doctor has suggested Betnesol injection - 12mg for two days. It is a steroid, and not free from side effect. Is it necessary ? How safe is it ?. But our doctor has given us a period from 25th august to 5th sept as expected date of delivery. Can we blindly follow our doctor ? Why is she suggesting an early date by almost two weeks ?
Hello, I appreciate your concern for your baby and i will try my best in solving your query fully.
I would like to tell you that betnesol is a steroid (betamethasone) and it will help to produce surfactant in the baby's lungs, allowing them to inflate without sticking together. Normally baby's lungs start producing surfactant by 32 to 35th week of pregnancy.
So if there are any chances of preterm delivery, then its commonly given to prevent lung collapse in newborn and its absolutely safe. So in your case, you can discuss with your gynec to know any chances of preterm labor and delivery.
Hope this will help you and feel free to ask any of your further follow up questions directly to me, i will be happy to answer you.
