Is Taking Lansoprazole Safe Through G-Tube While Suffering From GERD?

My husband recently had a g-tube inserted. He suffers from GERD and has taken medication orally for over a year. However he can no longer take anything orally as it goes directly into his lungs. Can he take the contents of Lansoprazole delayed release capsules through his g-tube?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing in to hcm.
Yes entric coated lansoprazole can be given through Gastrotomy tube .
Kindly consult your physician as usually it is advised to crush the tablet and mix it with sodium bicarbonate 8.4% solution to make an alkaline suspension and administer it through the tube. However, you must first consult your physician regarding this.
Hope your query was answered.
Regards,
Dr.Riyanka
