Is Taking Prednisone Advisable To Treat Laryngitis?
Hello. I am desperately trying to recover from laryngitis in time for a very big concert in which I need to sing a week from today. I am considering a course of prednisone. I m wondering if this is a good idea and if so, what dosage and for how many days. I have been employing every conventional method of treatment already and have been on antibiotics for several days now as well. thanks so much
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Prednisone is a systemic steroid. It is not advisable to use to treat conditions such as laryngitis. Since laryngitis is an infection, it needs to be treated with use of a course of appropriate antibiotics. Also, since there is edema of the larynx due to infection, decongestant syrup or tablet added to it would help. In addition, salt water gargling with warm water using anti-inflammatory analgesic medications like dispersible Asprin dissolved in it would help to recover early. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
