Is Taking Increased Dosage Of Amlodipine And Atenolol Safe For High BP?

I can t get my blood pressure down, 170/110, and I don t have insurance. I take ateninol 50mg and amlodipine 5mg in the morning. I started to take the same dose again in the evening to try to get it down. I show 140/90 which is an improvement but I am worried if it is okay to take it twice a day.

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

Yes, taking increased dose of Amlodipine and Atenolol would be safe for you. Amlodipine & atenolol could be taken in dose of 5mg & 50 mg twice a day to lower blood pressure there is no problem in that at all.
Blood pressure of 170/110 is very high & it has come down to 140/90 mm Hg after taking twice dose. With time it can come down to normal as well. Therefore you should continue taking twice dose of both the medicines.
You should decrease intake of salt in diet also. Low sodium salt can also be helpful. Avoid anything that contains extra salt sprinkled after preparation.
Light exercise like walking, cycling could also be helpful.

Refer to a physician, if blood pressure still remain high
Hope this information helps
Good luck
