Is Taking Silver Nitrate Safe During The Pregnancy?

I am a 34 year old female, 5 weeks pregnant with a small cervical polyp that my physician saw during a examination. Due to the pregnancy, the physician decided to treat it with silver nitrate. Will silver nitrate shrink the polyp and stop the spotting it has caused and is it safe for my pregnancy?
