Is Taping The Implanon In Multiple Areas Alter Its Effectiveness?

I got the birth control rod (implanon) inserted on Tuesday. As the doctor was doing it, for some reason as it went through it came out the opposite end. So it stuck through my skin that wasn t numbed. She pushed it back it and taped not only in insertion hole but the hole where it came out too. I was wondering if the effectiveness is now not as effective? She told me not to worry about it, but I am still scared.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If the taping of exit is done properly and the rod is properly placed in subcutaneous space. It would work properly. The opposite hole would heal gradually and it would not change effectiveness of the contraceptive. Please be in contact with the doctor till the taping is removed to confirm placement of the rod. Till then use additional contraceptive like condom to be on safe side.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
