My mother (82 yrs old) had lung cancer 4 years ago and a lobe removed. (No chemo or radiation - her choice). The cancer is now back in both lungs, ribs, a spot on the skull and 2 spots on the brain. She has started taking tarceva. Can this be effective on all the cancer areas?
Tarceva is also called erlotinib. Since your mother is 82 year old and has stage 4 lung cancer oral chemotherapy tarceva is a good option. She will not tolerate injectable chemotherapy Major side effects of tarceva are diarrhea and rash. Tarceva will be effective on all cancer areas and will try to keep her tumour under control.
