Hi,

Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

The spasm that you describe is seen in tetany. But loss of consciousness and post epileptic amnesia is unlikely. If I were your treating physician I would have ordered for a calcium and phosphorus level in your blood. If calcium is low, I would have ordered for serum PTH and Vitamin D.

Tetany is likely if calcium is low - whether it is due to low PTH (hypoparathyroidism) or low Vitamin D. Both conditions are treated with calcium tablets and vitamin D (active vitamin D - calcitriol in hypoparathyroidism). This is not related to thyroid.

So I would suggest you to make decisions based on serum calcium reports. If epilepsy is due to tetany, it may go with correction of low calcium.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
