General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, it can be harmful if taken for long duration. Meftal Spas is a combination of an anti-inflammatory painkiller (mefenemic acid) and a muscle relaxant (dicyclomine) respectively. Commonly prescribed for the symptomatic relief of pain during menstruation, irritable bowel syndrome and other conditions, it is usually harmless if used for less than 10 days.

Remember if you take such drugs, increase the amount of oral fluid you drink to six to eight glasses a day to minimize its side effects. Taken in larger doses or long term use can affect the kidneys.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
