Is The Effect Of Cartia Similar To That Of Flecainide Acetate?

Thank you. I would like to know if the effect of Cartia is similar to that of flecanide acetate (Tamborcour) In other words, does the effect of the drug become permanent after a period of ingestion for cardiac arithyma . Flecanicde acetate s effect (slowing down tachycardia) does, in fact, remain in the patient for extended periods of time. Thank you. John Carter

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Both of these drugs have different mode of actions on the heart and are used in different indications. However, both may have to be used simultaneously, if the cardiologist thinks it to be required. Cartia is a calcium channel blocker and is used to treat hypertension (High blood pressure) or angina chest pain.

Where as Flecainide acetate is used to prevent or treat irregular heart beats (arrhythmias) like sustained ventricular tachycardia, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter etc. This drug can reduce the risk of clot formation, heart attack, stroke and many a times even fatal outcome.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
