Is The Following Line Of Treatment Recommended For UTI?

My father is 81 years old and is suffering from recurrent UTI. Our Doc has prescribed Prulifloxacin 600mg for 10 days in addition to cefixime 400mg and 200 mg of Nitrofurantion per day. He suffered mild strokes 3 times about a year ago and has fully recovered from such strokes. Is the line of treatment right ? He has turbid urine with routine urine analyses showing presence of pus cells 100-150hpf.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

He has severe urinary tract infection so a combination of different antibiotic has been prescribed.

He can take prescribed medication by a doctor.

However, I suggest you investigate with urine culture before starting antibiotic to find causative organism and accordingly medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
