Hello doctor, I am seventeen years old and am facing some itching problems in areas around my neck, waist and are under the knee. My mother is facing the same problem in her arms, legs and back. These areas are very itchy and become red when scratched. I have not consulted a doctor yet. I am very worried. I have been facing allergic problems like itchiness since my childhood but this has come after a long time. Can these be the symptoms of chicken pox? I have my XII board exams coming up and am very scared. please help me. Regards.
No, it may not be chickenpox, it may be scabies as your mother is also having similar disease. The other possibility is prurigo simplex. You consult dermatologist for firm diagnosis. I prescribe ivermectol 12 mg tab single dose in scabies along with permethrin creaming scabies patient. And to relieve itch, antihistaminic like levocetirizine. In prurigo case, I advise steroid in tappering dose for few weeks along with mild steroid cream to apply. But, you take treatment after consulting dermatologist. I hope you got my answer.
Thanks.
