Is The Numbness In My Lip Related To Tooth Infection?

I have a tooth in the bottom right side if my mouth. Went to dentist this afternoon and he said I need a root canal which I have scheduled for Wednesday. All they did today was take an exray. About an hour later my bottom right side of my lip started feeling numb and now my chin is also numb. Could this be caused by my tooth or should I be concerned about something else being wrong

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain numbness of the lower lip and chin when you have a decayed tooth that is scheduled for root canal treatment occurs due to compression over the nerve branches that supplies the affected area and can occur due to abscess formation that compresses the nerves and leads to numbness..

Nerve compression caused due to inflammation of nerve can also be a cause..

I would suggest you to start taking antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers by consulting you dentist and also get the root canal treatment done..
It will help in reducing inflammation and the sensations will recover..
Also do alternate warm and cool compresses over the numb areas..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
