I went for a ultrasound May 6 2011 and got the results back from my doctor on may 16 2011. She told me everything looks fine and that I m 11, 9 weeks at the date of ultrasound, and gave me the report as I was leaving. I just read the report last friday because I thought their was no need to read it on monday if she said it was fine and it said: LMP March 30 or February 27. Their is a finding consistent with expected gestational sav withing the uterus containing yolk sac. No fetal pole or active fetal cardiac motion identified. Gestational sac measurement 6.22 mm equating less then 5 week gestation. Cervix closed, no abnormal fluid collection. No abnormal perlvic mass or fluid collection. Are my dates wrong and is their something I should be worried about?
At 9 weeks gestational period if ultrasound shows gestational age of less than 5 weeks, it does draw attention. Moreover, the gestational sac is without foetal movements. At 9 weeks, foetal movements are definitely visualized. It is suggesting that the foetus is likely to be non-viable - missed abortion.
Please repeat the ultrasonography after a week. If still it is not showing any cardiac activity, the diagnosis of missed abortion is confirmed. Then you will have to get the pregnancy terminated. It is not advisable to defer the termination of missed abortion for indefinite time since it may lead to some serious complications like severe bleeding due to clotting disorders (DIC) or infection.
I hope you are convinced with the explanation.
