Is The Release Of Phlegm Related To GERD?

I HAD A FUNDO PLYCATION DONE ATLEAST 15 YEARS AGO. AFTER MY RECOVERY I HAVE DONE QUITE WELL WITH IT. HOWEVER I SEEM TO GET A LOT OF FLEM UP FROM THROAT. ESPECIALLY IF I LAUGH TO HARD. I THEN GET PAIN IN MY THROAT AND MY VOICE FEELS VERY STRAINED AT TIMES. I DON T REALLY HAVE THE CLASSIC HEART BURN BUT THE FLEM AND VOICE PAIN IS ANNOYING AT TIMES. SEVERE ENOUGH TO KEEP QUIET. ALTHOUGH THAT DOES KEEP ME OUT OF ALOT OF TROUBLE AT TIMES. DO YOU THINK THIS STILL MAYBE A GERD PROBLEM?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Chronic phlegm can also be related to chronic bronchitis, irritation of lower respiratory tract ( more likely as there is throat pain also associated ) and less likely related to GERD. Consulting with your family physician is mandatory to go further as diagnostic and therapeutic approach.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
