Hi Doctor, I just had a vaginal swab test and this is the result: pus cells ++, Epithelial cells 0-6phf, yeast cells ++ and the culture says yielded moderate growth of candida albican after 48 hours. Is this something to worry about? As I have a history of PID which I have treated. Am 36 years old

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi Presence of pus cells along with fungi candida indicates candidiasis. This needs to be treated with antifungals. Discuss with your doctor regarding treatment. These findings indicate present infection, may not be related to your past history of pelvic inflammatory disease(PID) However if you have associated symptoms of PID, then you have to for a thorough evaluation. Take care
