Actually all beta blockers cause
heartburn to some extent, but it might be due to hiatal hernia. Hiatal hernia itself causes
acid reflux. Surgical correction is needed for severely symptomatic hiatal hernia
Advice
1.
Omeprazole 20 mg per oral empty stomach in the morning for 15 days
2. Continue
metoprolol as suggested
3. Avoid smoking and alcohol if she is consuming
4. Do not heavily at a time. Divide your meals into smaller portions and eat them frequently during the day
5. Avoid a particular food if pain occurs particularly after eating that food
6. Avoid eating 3 hours before lying down
7. Raise the head of your bed
8. Avoid spicy foods, fatty foods, mint, chocolate, tomato-based foods, coffee, and citrus fruits
9. Investigation –
Barium meal X – ray
If above measures do not cause any relief then consult a gastrointestinal surgeon for possible surgical correction of hiatal hernia.
