Is There A Risk Of Breast Cancer Associated With Duphaston ?
Dear Doctor , Is it safe to take duphaston. Is there a risk to breast cancer associated to taking it -as I ve seen a journal regarding duphaston & breast cancer but I can t interpret it due not in layman s term.(or will the risk be only applicable to those under hormone replacement therapy for menopausal cases). It was prescribed for me to regularize menstrual period as we are trying to conceive - (age-31, no history of breast cancer)
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic
Duphaston contains dydrogesterone (progesterone ) and it is one of the safe drugs used frequently in gynecology practice. Dydrogesterone helps regulate the healthy growth and normal shedding of the uterus lining. It should not be used in females with history of breast cancer. There is risk of breast cancer only when duphastone is used with estrogen in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for post menopausal woman. On its own it doesnt have any risk of breast cancer. Breast tenderness is a side effect of duphastone but not cancer. Take care.
