I am 81years. 5 ft 2 inches and now weight 53.8k. 12 months ago I suffered a treatment injury. During a Gastrostomy with P.E.G. insertion, my stomach was not completely closed. 11 days later I was re-admitted following collapse. Eventually an abdominal xray was done and showed the feed had been flowing into my peritonium and infection had alreay started.I was told that I would die in 2 hours and I had no options. However, I requested that attempt be made to drain my abdomen and commence antibiotics. This was done and I was given great care and survived. However, 12 months on I still have Pus oozing from the site. My skin, and are round the P.E.G. are both free from infection so the pus must be coming from inside my stomach. It is copius and a strange awful smell. I have significant nausea. Blood test remain acceptable and no fever. Earlier repeated swabs showed Staph aureus. However, the last swab showed only aerobic and non aerobic organisms. The decision has always been to not treat, This is a worry to me as treatment for chronic UTI means the amount of pus is effected by the UTI treatment, The pus frequently temporarily improves but returns as soon as the antibiotic ceases. My concern is that we may be running the risk of development of a super bug. I also have stents in both kidneys with ureteric catheters coming through an Ileal Conduit into the attached bag. For some years I have suffered chronic UTI and almost continuous use of antibiotics. Because of organisms becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics our options are decreasing. With having the two conditions it stands to reason that my risk of increasing infection in both sites is fairly high. My Question is as follows... Is there a risk that the gastric infection could become gangrenous. Especially considering I have had to be put on Concentrated feed run in via the Nutricia pump at just 40mls an hour for the 500mls. Thank you,
