Is There Any Alternative Medicine Tablet To Help With Cartilage Problems? Will It Reoccur If Used?

Hi

I have received a mail out about an alternative medicine tablet to help with cartilage problems. Amongst other claims it the information says it can regenerate cartilage. Is this possible? I would like some advice before I go ahead and spend my money. I have worn cartilage in my knees, which is causing some pain.
Thank you for your advice. Amy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, as usual your arthritis or weight gain would have resulted in the damage of the cartilages. There are medicines to regenerate the cartilages of the joints for which everything efficacy, side effects, etc are documented.
So i advise you to consult an orthopeic surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. Who will decide if there is degeneration of the cartilages and decide the treatment. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Well, there is no concrete evidence based data that suggests the cartilage regeneration potential of any oral medications. This statement applies even to any supplement from alternative medicine.

But regular use of GLUCOSAMINE & CHONDROTIN supplements (these two molecules make up the cartilage found in the joints) have shown a significant reduction in the osteoarthritic pain in many clinical studies. Whether or not they repair the damaged cartilage is still debatable.

So, don't just go by any commercial or an email promotion. Look for evidence based data.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
