Is There Any Chance Of Abortion Due To Being Diabetic During Pregnancy?

Hi, I am prediabetic, and just found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant. I took a sugar level test at at fair yesterday, just for fun, and I was shock to find out that it was 162! I start dieting right away, and I will see a doctor very soon. Should I be concerned? Is there a chance I can lose the baby because of that. I am also 45 years old. I have a 30 months old baby, and I developed gestational diabetes during first pregnancy.

Diabetes can be managed during pregnancy and if you can get your sugar under control your risks decrease greatly. But your greatest risk for miscarriage is age, at the age of 45 you have a miscarriage risk of one in five. the best course of action is to seek early prenatal care with a doctor with experience treating diabetes in pregnancy. A specialist in perinatology, or maternal-fetal medicine, is properly trained to manage this. I hope everything works out and this answers your question. Good luck.
